R.I.P. Forgotten
The following photograph display is of an old cemetery here on the ranch where I live.
At the request of the owners I did not give the name or place of this cemetery. Their wish is to keep it private.

I have lived here on this ranch for almost 2 years and just found out about this cemetery just recently.

There is little to no history on this cemetery, however, I was able to determine it was started in the early 1800s.

The ranch area was at one time a small town in Texas and it is my understanding that most of the residents died from yellow fever. Most of the deaths were children.

There are many graves marked with no more than a field stone or a Crepe Myrtle tree.
It is severely over grown and neglected but is kept in the way it was found with minimal upkeep.

The history behind the cemetery is fascinating … and of course, sad that so many died from disease / infection … definitely the leading cause of death in those days. While it’s sad that family members have to get special permission to visit (and be escorted!), at least the current owner doesn’t prohibit them.

There are hardly any family members that come and visit the cemetery.
Thank you so very much LB for the visit and your caring comments.
They must be escorted for their on safety because of Diamond Back and Timber rattlesnakes. It is on the property of a working game and deer breeding ranch. So at certain times out of the year, unfortunately, there are hunters.

Interesting find, and you got some good photos. It looks like a really sad place though, after years of neglect.

Thank you so much for the compliment. In a sense it is sad, however, I see it as a doorway to a better destination. Not many family members visit and the few that have or do must get special permission and escort to the cemetery because it is on privately owned property.
